First Graders Participate in NASA’s Artemis II Name Around the Moon Mission

Students in Mrs. Lord’s first grade class are taking part in a historic opportunity through NASA’s Name Around the Moon initiative, part of the upcoming Artemis II mission.
When the Artemis II spacecraft launches from Cape Canaveral, four astronauts will travel around the moon, carrying an SD card that contains millions of names submitted from around the world. Students in Mrs. Lord’s class have their names included in this mission and each received a souvenir boarding pass recognizing them as virtual guests of the flight.
In preparation, the class has been learning about the moon and its different phases, connecting classroom instruction with a real-world space exploration mission. The experience has sparked excitement and curiosity among students as they look forward to watching the launch in the coming weeks.
Opportunities like this help bring science to life for young learners while connecting classroom learning to historic events in space exploration.
